About USA Landscaping & Design

Seventeen years drawing yards that belong in the Sonoran.

We opened in Glendale in 2008. Family-owned then, family-owned now. The truck still leaves from the same address on N 64th Drive — and most of the names on this year's schedule have been on it for more than a decade.

The "& Design" in the name isn't decoration. Every project starts on paper. We listen to how you actually live in the back yard, walk the lot, sketch a layout that respects the grade and the sun, then price the build. No pre-templated package. No "three-tier" upsell. One sketch, one number, one crew.

What we install — pavers, block walls, flagstone, drip, sprinkler, turf, drainage, and a plant palette that doesn't die in July — is sized for the climate it has to live in. Compacted base. Polymeric joints. Pressure-regulated emitters. Native and adapted species set on real footings. The desert is hard on shortcuts. We don't take them.

How a project runs — design + build

Listen. Sketch. Source. Build. Hand off.

Five steps. Same five since 2008. The sketch goes on paper before anything goes in the ground.

  1. Free walkthrough

    Listen

We come out, walk the lot with you, and ask the questions that change the design — sun angle, grade, where the sprinkler heads die, where the kids actually play. No tablet, no clipboard performance. Just listening.

  2. Hand-drawn on paper

    Sketch

Back at the truck, we draw a layout. Pencil, paper, eraser marks. Plant placements, hardscape footprint, drip lines, where the water has to go in July. You see the sketch before you see the number — and you mark it up before we order anything.

A real first-pass sketch — pencil on paper, then your marks
  3. Materials before crew

    Source

Pavers, block, drip parts, plants — we order them and stage them at the address before the crew shows up. No "day three, we need to run for parts." The build day starts with everything on site.

  4. Week-by-week schedule

    Build

Demo, base prep, hardscape, irrigation, planting, finish. Most builds run two to four weeks depending on scope. The site is cleaned every evening. You get a text when each phase wraps so you can walk it before we start the next one.

  5. Planting calendar + 30-day check-in

    Hand-off

When we pack up we leave a one-page planting + watering calendar tuned to the species we put in. Thirty days later we come back, walk the yard with you, top off mulch, and adjust drip if anything needs it. No invoice for the visit.

What we do — West Valley

Six lines of work, all designed first.

Each service is something we drew, sourced, and installed ourselves. No subcontracted-out turnover.

  • Landscape design

Hand-drawn site sketches that respect grade, sun angle, and the way you actually use the yard. Native and adapted plant palette, AZ low-water selections, ramada and shade structure layouts.

  • Pavers & flagstone

Dry-laid paver patios, walkways, and pool decks. Compacted aggregate base, polymeric joints, edging that holds. Cut and color-matched on site.

  • Block & retaining walls

CMU and decorative block — garden walls, retaining work, planter walls, pony walls. Footers right, courses level, caps clean.

  • Drip irrigation & sprinklers

Pressure-regulated drip emitters sized for native plants. Sprinkler installs, valve repairs, controller swaps. Built for the AZ pre-emergent calendar.

  • Turf — live and artificial

Sod installs (bermuda or fescue overseed) on real prep work. Artificial turf with proper base and drainage so it doesn't bake the substrate.

  • Drainage & monsoon-flow

Regraded swales, French drains, dry creek beds, and area drains sized for July storms. The yard moves the water; you don't.

The plant palette

Six species we lean on — designed for July.

Native and adapted species we draw into almost every yard. Sized for a real lot. Watered for an AZ summer. Sketched into the composition, not dropped in afterward.

Saguaro

Very low

Carnegiea gigantea

30–40 ft, columnar

The signature. Slow to set, lifetime to live. Anchor of any front-yard composition we draw.

Palo verde

Very low

Parkinsonia microphylla / hybrids

20–25 ft, multi-trunk

Yellow bloom in spring, light-dappled summer shade. The state tree, and the workhorse shade canopy of every yard we design.

Mesquite

Low

Prosopis velutina

25–30 ft, broad canopy

Velvet-mesquite native. Filters sun, drops fine leaf litter that mulches under itself. Goes near patios — not over pavers.

Ocotillo

Very low

Fouquieria splendens

8–20 ft, splayed stems

Vertical sculpture. Red flame-tip flowers after monsoon. Sketches like nothing else. We plant it where the eye needs to go up.

Agave

Very low

Agave parryi / americana

2–5 ft rosette

Mid-ground anchor. Geometric, theft-proof, shrugs off July. We use parryi closer to walks, americana out where it can spread.

Brittlebush

Very low

Encelia farinosa

3–4 ft mound

Silver-gray foliage with bright yellow daisy flowers in spring. Soft filler that holds together a saguaro/ocotillo composition.

Plus the supporting cast — desert spoon, red yucca, prickly pear, chuparosa, golden barrel, blue palo verde — drawn in where the composition wants them.

That’s it. No portals, no logins — a phone call or an email is all it takes.

Where we work

The West Valley, drawn by hand.

Glendale home base since 2008. We run jobs out across the West Valley and into north Phoenix. We don't run east of the I-17 — keeps response time tight when something needs a same-week look.

What people say

Quiet pride, loud results.

  • Backyard tear-out and full xeriscape redesign in Sun City West. They sketched it on paper before quoting — every other bid was a copy-pasted package. Two monsoons in, the grade still drains where they said it would.

  • Paver patio with a built-in fire pit out in Litchfield Park. Compacted base, polymeric joints, the works. Came in at the number on the estimate — no day-three change order.

  • Block retaining wall on a sloped lot in Peoria. They explained the footer, the rebar layout, the cap detail before any concrete went in. Felt like working with a builder, not a yard crew.

  • Drip system rebuild and new low-water plant install in Goodyear. Hablan español, which made it easy for my dad to walk through what he wanted with them. Plants are thriving going into year two.

  • Front yard regrade plus DG and a new flagstone walkway in Surprise. Family operation, on time, cleaned the site every evening. Phones answered before 7 AM.

Honest pricing

Sketches and walkthroughs arefreeanywhere we work

Design + build pricing depends on the lot, the grade, and how much old material has to come out. We won't quote a yard sight unseen — but the walkthrough is free, the hand-drawn sketch is free, and the written estimate is on the same paper.

We cover Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, Sun City, Sun City West, Litchfield Park, Goodyear, and North Phoenix.
